Feb 24, 2017 · I've traveled thousands of blocks to find a woodland mansion. I finally got to the point where my white dot on the map moves up/down depending on which direction I move. I've tried going North, South, East and West, but the white dot doesn't go onto the map as an arrow, filling the map. I've spent hours trying to figure it out, but no dice.

When the player is less than 1027 blocks away from the map border, the icon returns to the proper size. When the player reaches the map's area of land (512×512), the map fills in like a normal map

Its 1st-person perspective is very important to the feel of the game. Adding a mini-map turns it into a different kind of game.

Jul 16, 2011 · Either East is at the top of the map, or the sun rises in the North and clouds always blow to the West. Also, the (x,z) coordinates are counterintuitive. It takes some getting used to, and I think that's the point. I suspect that Notch is just trying to keep us on our toes. It's as good an explanation as any.

May 26, 2011 · Maps in Minecraft have always been rendered in that way, with north being the east. I thought that's how Minecraft was, because that's how the old Cartographer did it. Now it automatically flips in Cartographer, Notch should have the map flip when you "finish" it.
