In the Gulf, Invest 98L could become a short-lived tropical depression before it moves inland over northeastern Mexico or southern Texas this afternoon or evening. Here's the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center as of 11 a.m., Aug. 15:

Invest 98L, the system that emerged in the Gulf earlier this week, is strengthening as it moves northward and will likely be significant rian to Texas.

Tropical Storm Erin is expected to become a hurricane later this week. Erin could become a major hurricane before curving north. While a path out to sea appears to be most likely, the East Coast of the United States should monitor the storm closely.
