D. Wayne Lukas, one of the most accomplished and influential trainers in the history of North American horse racing, has died.

A jam-packed weekend of Thoroughbred racing was overshadowed by the news that legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas died peacefully Saturday at age 89 after a career of personal accomplishment and devotion to the industry.

Hall of Fame horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas has died. He was 89. His family says Lukas died at his home Saturday night.
