An American Airlines flight had to return to the Charlotte airport for a mechanical issue Saturday. The airline said flight AA859 with service from Charlotte to Nassau returned to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport shortly after takeoff.

American Airlines is settling a lawsuit with the family of a Charlotte teenager who was secretly recorded in the bathroom while on a flight to Boston.

Authorities say now-former AA flight attendant Estes Thompson III tried to record the Charlotte teenager in the lavatory on a flight to Boston in 2023. The victim found one of Thompson's cell phones taped to the inside of the toilet lid.
