As part of the qualification criteria for official North American cup competitions during the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the 2025 US Open Cup will feature 16 MLS teams and 10 MLS NEXT Pro teams.

Now in its 109th edition, the U.S. Open Cup has crowned a champion since 1914 in every year except 2020 and 2021 (COVID-19 pandemic). An MLS team has won every final since 2000.
