RSPCA Tasmania chief executive Greg Tredinnick said most people wanted duck hunting banned. "It's a barbaric sport and with duck numbers declining there's no need for it," he said.

Tasmania is the only state to hold the event this year, with South Australia and Victoria both closing their seasons because of the impact the dry has had on the duck population.
