Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday he was preparing to re-establish diplomatic ties with Syria, less than a month after the overthrow of the Russia-backed government in Damascus.

Ukraine will assist in stabilizing the situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. Ukrainian grain will be supplied to the Syrian people, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.

Ukraine will renew diplomatic ties with Syria as part of an international effort to help stabilize the country following the collapse last month of the Russian-backed regime of former Syrian President Bashar Assad.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine has a chance to contribute to restoring stability in Syria following years of Russian interference, emphasizing that this effort will also bolster Ukraine’s own pursuit of peace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans to establish Syria as one of Ukraine’s key strategic partners in 2024. In his January 2 address, Zelenskyy shared updates from the Ukrainian delegation’s official visit to Damascus and outlined plans to restore diplomatic ties.
