The safety provided both the swagger and volatility the Eagles’ defense wanted to reclaim. That Roseman spent a second-round pick on Drew Mukuba to backfill the trade signaled how much the team valued the role Gardner-Johnson fulfilled.
Rookies Mukuba and Campbell could be starting by Week 1 if things keep trending the way they have been lately.
Dotson could be a bigger part of the Eagles' offense this season, and Mukuba might've just pushed himself into the starting safety picture.

Granted, Saquon Barkley sat out the preseason game as did Will Shipley. But veteran A.J. Dillon played. In addition to his bad decision by catching DTR's minus-14 yard pass, Dillon also had just 7 yards on 3 carries. He wasn't alone. Dillon, Montrell Johnson, Kellan Robinson and ShunDerrick Powell combined for 18 carries for 31 yards.

He put his arms in the air and sprinted around the back of the end zone to celebrate.
Andrew Mukuba returned an interception 75 yards for a score and recovered a fumble, and Jihaad Campbell had a sack, an impressive showing for the Eagles' top two 2025 draft picks. Maybe somewhere actor Matthew McConaughey was impressed.
