A Hinds County Sheriff's Deputy has been identified after fatally losing his life responding to a domestic violence call.

Shields, 37, was killed in the line of duty Sunday, Feb. 23, while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Terry. According to Sheriff Tyree Jones, Shields and another deputy got into a shootout with a suspect on Midway Road. Shields was killed. The other deputy was not injured.
