The Altadena fire wiped out much of a historic black enclave in this picturesque town in the San Gabriel Valley.

The recent fires that ravaged Altadena, California, have left a trail of destruction in a community with deep roots and a rich history.

More residents in the Altadena area were returning to their homes Tuesday as firefighters neared full containment of the Eaton Fire that has destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 17 people.

While they were unable to save the home, Pasadena firefighters from Station 33 used an ice chest to preserve a family's precious photos.

For the crews at Pasadena Fire Station 33, the Eaton Fire will be remembered as one of the hardest firefights of their entire lives. Nicole Comstock reports.
