Before winding down the war, US and Israel are determined to wipe out Iran’s nuclear expertise
As rain poured on the northern provinces of Iran in late March, a somber crowd snaked through the mountain ranges of Asara carrying the coffin of Mohammad Reza Kia. The city of just a few thousand people was draped in banners now hailing the young nuclear scientist as a “martyr of the imposed war.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have issued a new demand that Iran forfeit its uranium stockpile, or else face renewed attacks or a ground operation by the U.S. and Israel — a threat levied just hours after the start of a fragile temporary ceasefire on Tuesday.

The nuclear issue is likely to determine not only when the war ends, but also how it ends, and who can claim “victory.” Per Trump’s speech, there are at least three nuclear off-ramps to help the administration retreat from the conflict and avoid a costly war.
Iran and the United States held indirect talks in Geneva, attempting to reach a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and potentially avert another war as the U.S. gathers a massive fleet in the Middle East.
