'All talk, no action': Khwaja Asif again claims Pakistan 'ready to fulfil' Mecca pact obligations
Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said Islamabad is prepared to fulfil its obligations under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
Powerus, which counts Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump among its investors, signed a memorandum of understanding with Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s de facto leader, on Wednesday, the company’s co-founders said.
Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the new pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkey could be activated if aggression against the Kingdom escalates. He also stressed Pakistan’s religious duty to protect Saudi Arabia’s holy sites.
Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said Islamabad was prepared to fulfil its obligations under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye following an attempted drone attack near the holy city of Mecca.
The trilateral defence agreement, involving Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, was inked last month. The pact establishes a framework for collective deterrence and stipulates that an armed attack against any one of them would be regarded as an attack against all.
Technical teams from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are working on the structure, coordination mechanisms and responsibilities under their defence pact. The discussions come amid rising tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement.
