Patrick Clancy is set to make his first public comments after his ex-wife's murder trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month.

The revamped 60 Minutes premiered to its smallest audience in a quarter-century. The once-storied news program opened Sunday night to an audience of about 7.7 million, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings,

Despite a major promotional push, the program drew 7.9 million viewers, well below last season's average.

In the adults 25-54 demo, 60 Minutes averaged 1.58 million viewers, down 33% from 2.36 million for last year’s premiere. CBS News said in a statement, “We are so proud of the exceptional journalism on display in our season premiere and we can’t wait to bring our audience another amazing show this coming Sunday.”

CBS News says it needs to push “60 Minutes” into the future if the show is to survive, but the first telecast of the 59th season following a shocking overhaul of its on-air and behind-the-camera staff in May and June relied on many elements from the program’s past.
