With a pioneering sound that essentially created the genre of heavy metal, it’s no overstatement to call Black Sabbath one of the most important rock bands of all time. In 1967, bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler formed Rare Breed,

“The all-star event will celebrate the true creators of heavy metal and will see @OzzyOsbourne play his own short set before joining with Black Sabbath for his final bow,” read the announcement, shared on Osbourne’s X account.

One band that’s been notorious for this over the years was none other than Black Sabbath’s original lineup of Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bill Ward. By my count they’d done a couple “final shows”, but this morning’s announcement of “The Final Show” in Birmingham, U.K. certainly feels like a terminus for the band.
