The first true upset of the 2025 Club World Cup knockout stage has come to fruition as Brazilian giants Fluminense upended UEFA Champions League finalists Inter Milan in the Round of 16 on Monday in Charlotte.

Inter are out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Despite the disappointment of the elimination after losing 2-0 to Fluminense in the round of 16 of the summer tournament, the Italian giants can finally take a break after their exceedingly long 2024-25 season.

Fluminense have reached the Club World Cup quarterfinals with a stunning 2–0 win over Inter Milan as German Cano’s early goal and Hercules’s stoppage-time strike toppled the Champions League runners-up.
