Brutal cold will open the door for a winter storm to take a somewhat unusual track through the South and create treacherous travel conditions.

Every state from Kansas to Delaware logged at least one report of 10 inches or more of snow. At one point, some 70 million Americans were under winter storm warnings.

Another major winter storm is expected to slam portions of the central and eastern U.S. this week with heavy snow and powerful winds, threatening to induce dangerous travel conditions, knock out power and ground flights, forecasters warned.

National Weather Service meteorologists predicted wintry precipitation across the southern Plains region starting Wednesday night, with snow likely in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Farther south, snow could transition to sleet and freezing rain,

At least some areas of light snow, sleet and freezing rain or drizzle may develop in the Southern Plains Wednesday night. Parts of northern Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Kansas and southwestern Missouri are forecast to see snow. A band of sleet and freezing rain may stretch from central Texas into northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas.

The FOX 5 Storm Team has declared Friday and Saturday Storm Alert Days due to the threat of winter weather in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

Storm Cora will bring snow and ice to many of the same areas that are still digging out from Winter Storm Blair. Snow, ice and arctic air will overtake much of the South, Midwest and East from through Saturday.

The National Weather Service warns that more winter weather is on the way for portions of Texas into the Lower Mississippi Valley and mid-south, bringing light snow Wednesday before a more significant storm on Thursday into Friday.
