Severe winter weather is not the most common occurrence for many areas in the Roanoke Valley and Southwest and Central Virginia. However, during the early evening of January 3, the National Weather Service in Blacksburg (NWS) issued a Snow Squall Warning for areas from Pulaski to Roanoke.

We need to watch for a possible afternoon snow squall, but relatively mild 40-plus readings ahead of it should limit potential. A brief snow squall among showers and flurries could impact the afternoon and evening commute,

On Friday at 5:18 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated snow squall warning in effect until 6 p.m. for Centre, Clearfield and Clinton counties.

The snow squall warnings that were in effect for much of the region this weekend have ended. According to Environment Canada, Barrie and many other areas across Simcoe County, South Muskoka and Grey County were under a series of snow squall warnings that began Wednesday night.
