People in Orlando have defied Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and reinstated a rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub, after Florida officials removed the painted crossing installed in memory of the 49 people killed at the site in 2016.

Under the authority of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and in line with a new ban on “non-compliant pavement surface markings”, state authorities have written to local cities in recent weeks demanding they remove rainbow crosswalks. It echoes wider guidance from the Tr*mp administration to remove political messages from roadways.
