The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a woman who they say stole a patrol car and escaped after officers handcuffed her and initially took her into custody.

Somehow the handcuffed suspect stole a marked police SUV and slipped away after a brief chase. Officers recovered the vehicle but not the woman.

The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a woman who allegedly stole a patrol unit while she was handcuffed Monday night. The LAPD said at 11:50 p.m., a woman who was handcuffed stole the patrol vehicle at Franklin and Orchid Avenue. She then drove the vehicle to Camrose and Paramount Drive and then fled on foot.
