WASHINGTON — Jhoan Duran’s pain subsided quickly. A day after Duran took a line drive to the ankle and left the field in the Nationals’ bullpen cart, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said the closer is “good to go” if there’s a Saturday save situation.
Duran made his way out of the bullpen wearing No. 59 to a loud roar from the crowd at Citizens Bank Park, just two days after he was traded to Philadelphia by the Minnesota Twins for a pair of Top 100 prospects: Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were not as aggressive at this year's trade deadline, passing up top relievers like Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran.
The early returns on their trade deadline acquisitions is pretty darn good, as the Phils have opened a 5.5-game lead over the Mets in the NL East thanks in large part to dominating closing performances from Jhoan Duran, and outfield contributions from Harrison Bader.
