We drove the scenic Hwy 12 Utah in May. The highway scenery is amazing. I didn't think it was terribly scary or hazardous. Their are a few down hill hair pin curves but I've driven worse. The scaries…Full review by bowhunterups

We happened on this scenic byway by chance. Glad we did as it had a multitude of different climate environments, all of which were lovely to drive through. There are plenty of pull-ins to admire the …Full review by machinmad

The comments, blogs and reviews about this stretch of road are true. Very beautiful and the Hogback part was a bit nerve wracking. A must-see when you’re in the area.Full review by foodieluvtravel

This gorgeous scenic byway runs from Bryce, UT to Torrey, UT and is one of the most beautiful drives in the country. It is the main way to get between Escalante and Boulder, so you can't miss it. You want to plan this drive during the daytime so that you can see everything and navigate comfortably. We made the mistake of leaving Bryce too late the first time and had to white knuckle part of the drive in the dark.

Can anyone suggest the very best stops? I'd like to see the petrified forest state park and Anazasi state park. How long should we allow for those? We have limited mobility meaning no big hikes but certainly we want to walk to see different views. We will leave Bryce early planning to be in Torrey around 5. Thanks for any help.

The stop at the Petrified State Park is worth the short drive off Route 12. There's some nice hikes but with limited mobility it's still worth seeing the large petrified tree exhibit near the parking lot. There's also a short walk next to the parking lot which is paved and level for limited mobility that would just take 10 minutes or less to see.

From Bryce to Escalante it takes about 1 hour. From Escalante your drive time will be 1.5 hours. That's if you drive without stops. Along the way the views are epic and I would stop at the Kiva coffee shop, Hells Back Bone Grill and Anasazi State Park Museum. Honestly to really enjoy the drive I would take the day.

Hey Bunny, When we drove through 12 (September), I saw a few bike riders but it is out of my league. The road is paved (but some areas have no shoulder (other than dirt) and there are quite a few hills. I cannot include a link here but I googled "biking scenic byway 12" and there was a good article on the site visitutah that came up. Hope you find it helpful.
Q:
What's the best time to see the aspen change color?
A:
It varies, depending on how cold it gets and how quickly. Usually it occurs sometime the last 3 weeks of September
